| Hellenic National Meteorological Service, since its
foundation in 1931, has been improved and developed into a modern
meteorological service providing up to 10 days reliable weather forecast
instead of "tomorrow's".

| This has been achieved on the one hand because of the
progress in science and technology and on the other because of the unit's
dedication to the goal of a continuous improvement to all the services that
provides to the public, the local authorities, the air navigation, the
navigation, the transports and National Defense.

| The scientific and technological improvements wouldn't be
enough for the increase of the accuracy of the provided forecasts if HNMS
didn't participate actively to international organizations that aim to the
Meteorology advance with the use of satellites, mainframe computers and
mathematic simulations. This participation has always been financially
supported by the state.

| Moreover, the heart of every unit is its staff and HNMS was
happy to employ devoted individuals of high scientific and technological
constitution whose continuous education is a permanent pursuit. Nowadays, the
environment in which we must work is changing due to the climate alteration and
the financial coincidence as well. It's sure that the financial crisis will
affect the unit's function but not the quality of our products. We revise our
function's structures, our products and services in order to be more
cost-effective and competitive after having been sure that we meet all the
requirements of the society with the full exploitation of the State supplied
funds.

| My personal belief is that the challenges of the nowadays
conditions will improve our self confidence and release the dynamism and our
passion for science, leading us to a continuous quality upgrade, as it is
required by the circumstances, contributing with the right climate study and
forecasts to the National Defense and National Economy.
